Posted - Nov 06 2009 : 10:30:14 I'm sorry, I don't think I can be of much help. You know a lot more older Danish art than I do Hans.
I think I have seen about ten paintings by Henrik Jespersen, and I don't think any of them had a similar monogram. Most of them were signed Henrik J. One had the monogram HJ with a dot over the J (photo attached).
Bent Ørberg's book "Monogrammer 1807 - 1887" shows a similar signature and a similar monogram to the ones shown below (although not quite the same), but NOT a monogram like bwennero's.
Posted - Nov 06 2009 : 02:46:49 Henrik Gamst Jespersen (1853-1936) painted mostly landscapes, this looks like a self portrait and could be interesting for collectors. If you show us the backside it would be great, I'm 99% sure it's him at least the monogram is similar also in the red color he liked to sign with. Perhaps Vietato can help here as well.

Last night i did some reserach i maybne this could be a Painting by Aksel waldemar johannessen , this was bought in Porsgrunn,and he had a exibichion here in are naboer town skien in 1918.It could be J W with a little A , your opiniun?
