Joachim Probst (1913 - 1980) a self-taught Greenwhich Village artist had many exhibitions during the 1960's. He produced an estimated 1000 oils and 4000 drawings, but I doubt many of those on this forum have ever heard of him. My guess is that he is little known, not because of his talent as an artist, but because of the subject matter he was obsessed by -- Christ. He was well collected by Hollywood types and had representation in both New York and Los Angeles -- yet virtually unknown today. His 100th birthday is latter this fall and it would certainly be nice if there is a New York gallery owner or curator among the followers of this forum who would be interested in a pursuing the "resurrection" of Joachim Probst (please don't be offended by that - it fits.) If interested, I have several contacts of people who knew him, printed material of previous exhibits, articles, even a video and access to some of his art. I will add a couple of examples of his work shortly. I doubt anything will come of this post, but I thought it worth the try.
Sample drawings.

it's funny to see that all the expert stars of this forum have clearly no opinon on the works of an authentic artist . what's the reason of this silence ... a lack of interest in art in general ? that's no value on the market ? I'm not concerned by this guy and prefer to spend hours on a billy's treasure bought for 50 cts and put in sale on ebay in the minute for 500 usd as soon as he's got the name of the artist and his potential value .... funny forum where it's seem more important to find the name and value of a bad painting than to have an opinion on a real artist !!! pfb

What is really funny here is the fact that you pfb have a problem with it. :) As that is what findartinfo site is primarily about - providing people with assistance on evaluating theirs works of art. That's what we actually pay subscription fees here for, supporting site's existence. I'm sure there are some other sites out there where art is discussed purely from academic perspective but even here no one I'm sure would have a problem with you expressing your opinion on "real artists" if you wish to do so. There is no crime in either. But for whatever reason you prefer to speak here more about forum participants than art. :)

pfb, I wonder if you had heard of him prior to looking him up on AskArt? I missed out on a nice self-portrait on eBay as I didn't think it would be purchased at BIN so quickly. Nice to see it go, but unfortunately not to me. Not much activity from the posting - as expected. Maybe I'll need to put the collection away for a few more years.

hello first time after yr mail I saw his paintings I have never heard of him remenber van gogh who has sold only one painting during his life ...sometimes it takes a long time to be reckonized as an important artist ... you can try on the german market ( berlin or munich ) more interested in expressionnism and specialy with religious background ( see schmidt- rottluff and die brucke movment ) or the swiss market pfb

Well, it’s 7 years later ... and there is still little interest in Joachim Probst. There are a few sales on eBay and listings on Etsy, 1srDibs, etc. but there may be something in the wind#128522;. I’ve been contacted by a respected individual in the art community with an expressed interest in his art and relationships to New York abstract expressionists. Will this lead somewhere? We should know by the end of the year. I should have bought a Tesla!
