Hi everyone, Here I've got this oil on board measuring about 13 1/2" X 16 1/2" (34X42cm) that I'm not sure what to make out of it... The scene supposedly has some mythological motif but it doesn't make much of a sense to me, although mythology isn't my forte so correct me if I'm wrong. So I would think it's some sort of a folk art and in this case the main question would be: which folk - what's the country of origin? Thank you for all of your tips, leads or suggestions!
For a start, thats the figure of Justice on the right, trampling on the serpent of evil. The other woman is presumably Truth shining a light on evil (necessary for Jusice to vanquish it). The harpist is a bit of a mystery. I don't think it can be King David.
Thank you Hercules! Yes, I've figured out that it has to be Femida (and Prudentia), but I never saw before an image of her killing a dragon, like St.George. :) So it rather looks to me like some eclectic mixture of Roman and Biblical mythology. But as I've said above - I could be wrong here. The harpist on the top is also a mystery figure to me.
