Hello,

hoping to get a help with reading of the signature here. Attractive antique oil on wooden panel, size approx 10.5 x 15 inches. Acquired in UK few years ago but I think it is a French artist somehow .... Signed in the right bottom corner, first name is initialed "E", last name starts with "M", then I am having difficulties to grasp a last name in full. Inscribed to the verso in French (I believe it is a location written there) and dated what seems to be 1925. I have taken several photos of the signature but still is hard to see it clearly ... Please go through all images, perhaps one is better than another ....

Thank you kindly,
Cyril.

I wonder how you know that the inscription on the back is in French if you can't read it?

It says "Rivieren Hof - Anvers" (Rivierenhof - Antwerp), so the painter is most probably Belgian.
To me it looks like a double last name - Men (Meu) Jers...

Regards,
Vietato

Hello Vietato,

Thank you for your response and info provided ..."Riviere" sounded very French to me that is why I got an impression that the artist was French ... but it is Belgium, thank you for translating the rest ....

Hmm, it never occurred to me that this could be a double last name ...thank you for the hint ...I will try to search for something similar among Belgian artists.

Thanks again,
Cyril.
