Oil on canvas I bought at auction just a restoration project. When removed from the frame I discovered the painting was relined and patched. The original canvas is very delicate. It has, what appears, a vertical scar, possible a tear, running through the central, heavily over painted, figure of a cobbler (white marks are my chalk drawing). C: 1700?. 74 cm height.
Curiously, on my search I found this painting (image 6), one or both are copies. My question is, who is the original artist? Flemish, I would guess, and after a search of shoemakers, I came up with David Teniers or Van Brekelenkam - who painted a similar cupboard bed (image size 1).
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thank you.

Hmm. found the artist - at last. Martin Dichtl.
The painting (6) sold at Christies 2005: http://www.artvalue.com/auctionresult--follower-of-dichtl-martin-act-a-cobbler-in-his-workshop-2266389.htm.
Follower of DICHTL Martin, act. ca 1661-1670 (Germany).
My painting has been reduced - the sky continues around the stretcher and to the reverse.
