Hello members,
I just bought this great, luminous, high quality oil painting on old artist board.
The size is about 12" x 17". It has not been cleaned. I'm sure that cleaning will bring out amazing details. The back of the board is flat black (held with nails in frame). The frame seems to be original to the painting.
The signature is quite clear, but I just can't figure it out. The signature has a very nice 19th century style - it must be familiar to one of the members. It is reminiscent of early 'Martin Johnson Heade' works.
Thanks, so much, for any help you have for me. Your time is very appreciated.
Best regards to all the members,
Jimmy N

It must be Jules Mersfelder (USA 1865-1937).

PS: Good photos!

Vietato,
How wonderful to receive your amazing response. I am so pleased!
You are exactly right. It is definitely "Jules Mersfelder". His other paintings, I have researched, are very similar.
The feel of the painting, because of the warm browns, is the style I am drawn to.
Thank you, again, for your time and effort. You have been very kind to me in the past, as well. I appreciate you, very much.
I have been trying to take better photos. I know it has been frustrating with other posts that I have submitted, in the past. Thanks, for your patience. I am 77 years old. I learn, every day - photography is a challenge, but I'm doing better.
You are a champion.
Best regards from Phoenix, Arizona,
Jimmy N
