Hello. Recently acquired this oil on canvas that I find very interesting. The painting measures 18 x 30 inches and depicts a dramatic scene of a father and son? It came from a seller in Montana, but in an area with a military base so it could be from anywhere. I find the style distinctive enough that Iím hoping someone may recognize the hand or at least be able to steer to a geographic region or time. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi

Are you sure it isn't a charcoal/gouache drawing on canvas rather than oil paint? It looks more like that. It looks European, maybe German/Dutch/Belgian expressionist, early twentieth century. Are you sure there isn't a relict signature bottom right? There seems to be something there. Reminds me of the work of Leo Gestel. Just my opinion, I'm not an expert in this area.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your response and for that suggestion. I will certainly start looking at European expressionists. It does look like gouache in the photos, but is in fact oil on canvas, and unfortunately no signature. Iím afraid it may be a tough one to track down. Thank you again for your help.
