My opinion is yes, with crown of thorns. I find the signature odd, almost like a title. Could perhaps be an early derivative of the word Jehovah? Memory serves Jehovah not put into use until 16th c. stemming from Hebrew YHWH - to YaHoWaH and many variations in between and since dependent on culture and language. I am no historian or scholar on this subject. Not even close. Just my initial thoughts.

Good observation!
I thought it should read "Onhoven", pointing to a Dutch or Flemish artist.
Google Translate suggests that "on hoven" could be something like "on the court".
The crown of thorns could support that idea.
Our Dutch friends may enlighten us if that makes sense.

I recommend the Art forum at BidtoArt.com

I am webmaster on this - it is NOT my site: Art Talk - American Art in 200 years

Dear wagnermia! Dear Vietato!
Thank you for the interesting ideas, I will now search among the Danish and Dutch modern artists. Probably the answer lies there.

Dear shawnster
You're right. Avant-garde or modern, or expressionism. It is difficult to distinguish between these areas.

I would say its just the artist name "Ophoven", which I cannot find though.

I agree wit Adrian. Ophoven is a name from the Dutch-German border. Two artists with that name are active: Guido van Ophoven and Irene van Ophoven. I'd put my dollar on Guido. He does funny heads :)

Dear friends Arb , Adrian
Thanks for the version.
We have an interesting investigation. We follow the trail of the artist!
I put on the version of "Jesus in judgment."
