I purchased this painting at a local auction in North Carolina. I few things that I can tell you, but a lot of unknowns to me.

I am reaching out to the forum hoping that members may be able to provide more information.

The painting is an OLD, repaired oil on canvas. I do not see a signature. The painting measures 22" x 30". I do not know if it is 18th century or 19th century. Maybe the uniforms of the soldiers could help, but I don't know if they are French or English? I was guessing maybe French?

It is a tropical island scene with mountains, palm trees, a hut, a man fishing in a stream, farm animals and soldiers.

Maybe French Polynesia? Again, thanks for taking a look.

Angela

I know what you mean P/K/S. I have looked at various uniforms as well. I am going to remove it from the frame today. There might be a signature in the bottom left hand corner. I am not sure.

Any guess on age? Appreciate you time. Thanks - Angela

hi Angela 19th century, with my opinion, pictures of nails would help a bit with estimating the age, did you have a chance of removing it from frame ?

Hi P/K/S -

Finally got around to removing the frame and taking more photos.
Don't see a signature, but maybe you will. Unframed measurements are 30" x 22".

Below are the photos for you to take a look at when you have time.

Thanks again - Angela
