hello,

quite an interesting expressionistic drawing on paper dated from 1941. Woman's face, I take it and she is wearing glasses. Paper size is just 5 x 6 inches (appears to be trimmed on one of the sides). Signed in the bottom right corner, same quick expressionistic style that makes it almost impossible to read the artist's name ....Just wondering if somebody can read the signature or know who the artist was .....???

Thank you very much.
Cyril.

Karl UELLIGER (1914-1993) would be my suggestion.

Thank you very much, Arb!

It is great to have a name to dig further. Thank you for a suggestion, it does look to say "...elliger" and knowing your expertise I'd say you are most certainly right about the artist.

Thanks again.
Cyril.

Hello,

I apologize for reviving this topic but I was staring at this signature for days now and just can not seem to shake off the feeling that this is not by Uelliger but by a different artist. I came across Karl Uelliger web page and have contacted the person in charge but have not heard back yet ...I checked few paintings by Uelliger and his signature seems to be so mellow and relaxed (and it usually says Karl Uelliger in full) while this signature was made in a rush with so much expression and dynamism that just does not seem to fit for Swiss artist Karl Uelliger .......

I can see how this would be ".... elleger" in ending but no clear answer as to what is up front ...

Thank you much,
Cyril.
