There are only four very different results on Arcadja, and one could doubt if they are all by the same artist.
http://www.arcadja.com/auctions/en/k%C3%BChnel_siegfried/artist/150664/

Here are two more, where the signatures can be viewed. They are very different:

To me it looks like an amateur - look at the snow on the trees!
‘C. n. C’ over the signature could be short for ‘Copie nach C’, a copy after C - whoever that is.

Regards,
Vietato

Dear Vietato
Many, many thanks! It seems to me unlikely that they would copy such a little-known author as Siegfried Kühnel. Why do this?
Perhaps these letters have a different meaning?

I removed the paper from the back of the picture. There was a portrait. It seems to me that this is the work of an artist not an amateur? Opinions?

I am not sure that 'C. n. C' means 'Copie nach C', but it seems likely. So it is a copy after a painter whose name has C as its first letter. Not Kühnel.

And I don't think the signature reads Kühnel, especially the H is hard to see. To me it looks more like KänarL - the letter before L looks very much like an R. The three letters following K could be something else.

Vietato

Yes, it looks like an artist, but I still don't think Kühnel.
'Amateur' is not equal to bad, but might lack some routine, and is likely to have more weaknesses than a professional.

Vietato

Dear Vietato
Thanks again. You are right again. The last letter is similar to L. It seems to me that the work is different in level. The landscape looks simpler. The portrait is more interesting. Perhaps different artists? It happens. I will continue the search. Perhaps someone identifies the person in the portrait?
