Hi Fellows. I have this painting. I would say 1890's, could be earlier. I tried to decipher signature, but it is beyond me. Maybe somebody can recognize it? Last time it was in frame shop in 1958 and has American framer paper backing (and date stamped). I really do not want to rip it apart, so hoping someone can help. Thank you in advance!

Hello.
The signature seems to be "Manolo". An artist that had this signature was Manuel Hugue but the style is different from this one. Check on your own : https://www.invaluable.com/artist/manolo%20(1872)--psdmbd53sw/ It seems a scholastic work , maybe a mexican professional painter.
Regards
Angelo

I would read 'Marck'.
I can safely say this painting cannot be Dutch. To my Dutch eye these colours are foreign and what's more: the subject matter is far too frivolous and funny. Our painters do not paint fun. And their buyers do not buy it. In the 17th century they did. Not now.

Angelo, Arb Thank you for trying. I do not believe it is from Latin America. Also, the costume woman is wearing reminds me of 19th century women clothing from regions of Netherlands....
The letter before the last, looks like to have a complete "loop", so most likely an "L". I know the work is minor, but still it is interesting. So was hoping to decipher the name. Maybe someone else can give it a shot please? Thank you.

No, the costume is gypsy eastern/southern European. It does not resemble any of our Dutch regional costumes, neither historical nor current.
