Hello,

this is another ink drawing that I am hoping to get a help with today. Drawn on what seems be wrapping/packaging piece of paper (rather than normal paper), size of 26 x 20 inches approximately. Bold expressive image of what may be a person's face or 2 figures, hard to tell, to be honest. Indistinctly signed in the bottom right corner.

I was wondering if somebody can read the signature. No date but looks to be from 1950s, maybe 1960s. Comes from France if that helps to pin point the artist. The surface is very wrinkled as shown in pictures yet it does not destroy the power of the image itself, in my opinion .....

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Cyril.

Hello cyril!
This drawing is probably by the french Pierre JaouŽn 1928-2012. This artist was a great one very respected in the french world of art but rarely exhibited during his life. He was among the 131 persons ho signed a famous letter against the french war in Algeria in 1961 and never change a sort of secret life and work. here is a link where you can scroll down to see the same signature on the viewable watercolor (In France, FRAC is regional fund of contemporary art). The other link is for the most complete bio you can find on the net and you will certainly obtain a google translation. The photos down this page went from google images and i am not sure that the whole set is really in connection with our artist.

Thank you very much, SaintLuc!

I have almost given up on getting an answer to this painting but have just noticed you gave me a response!

And I think you are 100% right! I looked at the signature and it is a perfect match (and I had another drawing by similar hand which I can say now is by the hand of Pierre Jaouen). Sadly, he is not in many databases as I have tried to google his name but did not get much images to look at .... no wonder I had troubles getting his name established when I used to search for "Jao......" (I thought I saw those letters clearly) I was not getting any samples offered from databases ......

Thank you very much once again.
Cyril.
