I just got this nice pastel on paper. I am a sucker for impressionistic art and this piece just stood out to me for some reason. I guess I like the use of color more than anything.
It has a 1920s vibe to me... possibly her hair. Though it could be earlier. Any guess on a date? I am no expert on pastels or paper, but it has an extremely velvety surface and it looks as though the original paper has been laid down on a more rigid paper at some point a long time ago (good thing, because it looks very delicate).
It is signed in the lower right corner in pencil. I cannot make it out for the most part. Hopefully someone out there can begin to decipher it. UPDATE: I found a second back to the frame stuffed within, and it has some tags on it. It looks as though the artist's name may be more clearly written there (see the last image).
Of course, knowing the geographical origins of this picture might help with figuring a name. I have no idea where it was created, but for whatever reason, even though she appears to be flamenco dancing, I get a Hungarian or Russian vibe. I suppose it could just as easily be Spanish. Your guess is as good as mine.
Thanks for your time and any help!

Hello Impasto, It seems you had a good hunch about it being Hungarian, as the label seems to be written in that language. But I cant find the artist name.
Regards, Vietato

Ah! Thanks, Vietato. I was wondering which language that is.
So funny... this picture reminds me of Francis Luis Mora's work (and he is Hungarian/American), so I think that had something to do with my guess.
There is a seal stamped on this back panel as well. It's not very legible, but maybe it offers some insight for someone. I have attached it below.

Hi Chad! Just a wild guess but you may try looking into works of Sándor Basilides. I had a work by him a few years ago and there are I think some resemblances in style and signature (as much as I can remember it).

Hi Merry! Sorry for not thanking you sooner for the suggestion.
I looked into this Sándor Basilides fellow, but I didn't see many convincing images online:(
Looks like my dancer here shall remain mysterious. I hope they are teaching artists these days how to properly sign their artworks.
;)
