I have been given a F Robson painting, it looks as though its an etching? Its black and white/brown no colour. In the bottom left corner it says Schescgate, Colchester? I just wondered if anyone knew anything about it or whether its actually worth anything??
Hi Deborah, welcome to the Art Forum. We need more info. And correct info. You write: "Schescgate, Colchester". Is it perhaps "Scheregate, Colchester"? What is shown on your "painting"? A building? A person? A landscape? What is its size? Does it look like the attached digipic? Regards Wasbach
I've got one of those prints (mine is of Newcastle). I thought it was an etching when I first bought it, but I'm not so sure now. There's something about the quality of line that's not quite right. My personal theory is that it's a photogravure done from a drawing, but with the plate quite heavily reworked by hand.
Nevertheless, they are often sold as etchings.
