Hi Avi, the only artist I know of or have seen sign his works ´´Ronald´´ is the Canadian artist William Ronald (1926-1998)

An example of his work can be seen here:-

There should be other info available on the web.

I saw several of his works online that were signed in different ways, a couple of them somewhat similar to the signature on the painting in question. Although, I will agree the style is significantly different. More than likely, this is probably not the work of William Ronald, but it is always good to investigate all possibilities.

definitely not william ronald

Neither the style nor the signature looks like those of William Ronald, unless it’s some sort of an early work (before he established his style and settled with signature).

Ups I didn’t see the attachment Wesbach posted and that’s a good one, so here is more:

It’s “not even similar” to the semi-script signature shown here on findartinfo in signatures of the artist. As to the other print type signature that can be seen on some of his works; well, how different Latin print letters could be in principal? But if you look careful enough you could see the difference especially if you look at a number of samples so you could see what changes and what stays the same and there fore distinguishes writing of a particular person. At the sample of sig’s that Wasbach attached look at the most obvious differences; letter “o” note where it starts and where it closes (top/bottom), letter “n” last stroke top to bottom vs opposite, letter “a” decentralization (right/left), letter “L” one-stroke/two-strokes course etc.

So in a way those signatures are very different as well.

william ronald was a member of a group of toronto-centred painters who rejected figurative art. they called themselves PAINTERS ELEVEN

Hi Wasbach!

Well, I guess same word written using same alphabet will be always ´´similar´´ to some degree.

PS.

Speaking about similarities; some years ago I worked for a Chinese company, one day on a lunch in a friendly conversation one of coworkers told me that for them all of white people look the same and often it´s hard to distinct one from another. ;o)

Not similar at all? Hmm ...

And I could show you hundreds of signature-pairs of different artist, that are so same, that you would never think of the different artist - they are really ´´very same´´. [;)]

Oh, you edited it again by adding forum to the conversation. ;o)

Sure, that’s the main reason I come here: to learn from forum.

But please note at least in this topic you are not the one anybody could’ve learned anything from. ;o)

I don’t know if anyone learned anything from me here either but at least I came to the topic with good intentions to share. As I know a bit the artist discussed above, also I have a close friend forensic scientist/documents examiner that taught me few lessons about handwriting examination that I also tried sharing here. But…..;o)

Merray.. obvious your 12 years working on the financial market doesn´t give you insight in much more than dirty underwear as you told about last time.

Please stick to that and enjoy your print or what ever it is (to be honest I don´t care).

if hans was talking about an oil painting then you should follow his advice -

it looks very inelegant, i know, but because spit is not water, and contains enzymes, but you will find it referred to by many restorers, example:

According to Helmut Ruhemann, noted restorer and author of the book “The Cleaning of Paintings”, another strange system that is however the best and safest way of removing dirt, is to use saliva.

“I wonder how many years it would take to clean Rembrandt’s “Night Watch” says Paul Frederick, in his manual “The Framer’s Answer Book”.

The saliva is collected in a container (don’t hesitate to ask family members and friends) and subsequently spread over the painting either with a brush or some cotton.

The alternative is to spit directly onto the painting and then spread. Probably Ruhemann and Frederick prefer paradox and controversial methods.

Hans, if you could only know how imperfect my English is (it’s the 4th language I learned). And if you could possibly know how much more I’m willing to learn.

However with you – your English is the smallest problem. ;o)

In any case I don’t think there is any reason to continue to talk as I hardly can understand what you are saying and you never had a clue what I was talking about as well.

Hans, stop editing your posts already you are beginning to be annoying. Don’t say one thing and then replace it with completely another one especially two days later. Be a man stand behind what you say. Learn to speak for yourself only not as “we” or “everybody”.

As for me if I would ever need any help you will not be ever the one to ask for.
